The region offers hiking tours of various levels of difficulty. Lush meadows, dreamy places, colourful forests and impressive outlooks. A hiking tour to the close-by "Lörmecketurm" (Lörmecke tower) provides magnificent panoramic views.
If you set out on foot, you can conquer many km of hiking trails and set yourself again and again new goals.
Whether leisurely on the mountain e-bike or dynamically without motor – biking is the ideal sport for all those who want to see as much as possible of the Sauerland on paths and trails of various lengths. The Bike Arena Sauerland is a biking-pleasure in the land of the thousand hills.
Around Föckinghausen, numerous long-distance cycling routes and circular tracks let you exploit the whole Sauerland, as for example the "RuhrtalRadweg" (Ruhr valley bike path): "All along the Ruhr..." – 230 km from the source to the estuary. Or the "SauerlandRadring" – 84 km of pure driving pleasure for families and touring cyclists. The ascents are limited and provide for driving fun, as the circuit follows a former railway track. The 40 km-long “HenneseeSchleife” leads along the Eastern border of the "Hennesee" (Henne lake) and connects the "SauerlandRadring" mit dem "RuhrtalRadweg".

The clubs of the Sauerland in Schmallenberg, Winterberg or Brilon extend a warm welcome to you as their guest for a sportive day with a view over the hills of the Sauerland.

Walk on cleared winter hiking trails or wander through the deep snow. Read tracks and leave your own when snowshoe hiking.
Wind and weather: we recommend sturdy, ideally water-proof shoes, warm cuffs or gaiters as well as weather-proof, breathable clothing. We have snowshoes and hiking poles on loan.
On one or two planks, for beginners and the more advanced. In the Sauerland, you will find appealing slope conditions – also in close proximity to the Waldhaus: Winterberg, Altastenberg or Willingen. Alternatively, why not try cross-country skiing?!
Nostalgic sliding experience, the wooden sledge from childhood days. Fast-paced or relaxed down the hill, into the valley. The Sauerland has a suitable sledging slope for each temperament. The "Wintersportarena" leaves no wishes unfulfilled.
When the hills of the Sauerland are lightly covered with snow, the time is near. We look forward to the Christmas celebration. The traditionally decorated Christmas-tree is simply part of it. Select and fell your own tree in a close-by forest business. The festivities can begin!
For all those who look for further inspiration other than from nature, there are diverse offers in the surrounding region. From lakes to a museum visit, from amusement park to "Edelbrennerei" (a distillery), the Sauerland offers all sorts of cultural experiences.
You will get a view of its interior in the "Sauerländer Besucherbergwerk" (a mine which can be visited). An adventure for divers is the nearby slate mine in Nuttlar. The Warstein brewery can be reached from Hotel Waldhaus Föckinghausen in only 2 hours on foot and Eversberg with its local museum is also not far away.
Or you take one step “back to nature” and observe native animals in the wildlife park in their natural environment.
