From „Hotel Waldhaus Föckinghausen“ you walk on A7 to the train station in Bestwig. There, you take the „Sauerland Express“, RE 17, hourly from 09.06 hours, or the „Dortmund-Sauerland-Express“, RE 57, hourly from 09.36 hours, to Freienohl. At the train station, you stick to the right side and walk a short bit on cycle lane R12, until a path bends off on the left side, which will lead to the „Ruhrtalweg“ (Ruhr Valley path). On the „Ruhrtalweg“, you turn right.
After a short while, in the borough of Bockum, you cross once again the road and keep walking on the „Ruhrtalweg“ until you arrive at some tennis courts. There, you turn right onto the „Ruhrhöhenweg“ XR (Ruhr high altitude trail). Through meadows, you are slowly walking uphill into the forest, passing Niederberge. You reach a Way of the Cross and pass two chapels, until you get to the village of Calle. Here, the XR bends once again left and proceeds above the village through a nice beech forest.
Soon, you will have a superb panoramic view of the meadows of Calle. You continue through meadows and forests, until you reach, shortly before Meschede, the St. Michael chapel, with a panoramic view of Meschede. You cross the river „Ruhr“. Meschede invites you to top up your energy before heading, through a residential area on the other side of the Ruhr, towards Eversberg. The Ruhr high-altitude trail is proceeding straight through Eversberg.
Eversberg has an outstanding historic village centre, worth a detour. The village offers several stops for refreshments - a cold beer in the „Lindenhof“ (closed on Wednesdays) refreshes you for the last part of the way. The final leg from Eversberg continues on XR, passing the airfield of the model airplane club. You cross the river „Gepke“ and walk through the „Aschersiepen“ back to „Hotel Waldhaus Föckinghausen“.
