From „Hotel Waldhaus Föckinghausen“ you walk on A7 to the train station in Bestwig. There, you take bus-line 390 to Brilon (hourly from 9.31 to 18.31 hours), getting off at the market square.
In Brilon you take to trail X1 („Plackweg“), the trail over the ridge of the „Arnsberger Wald“ (Arnsberg Forest).
Leaving Brilon, you walk through meadows and fields. You cross the roads B7 and K57 and keep following X1 until you reach the „Altenbürener Mühle“ (mill of Altenbühren) (closed on Mondays and Tuesdays). Treat yourself to a break and a refreshment. You continue on X1 to Esshoff.
At the end of the village, you turn right and keep following hiking trail X1. From here, you walk through tall fir forests until the forest gives way to deciduous and mixed forest at „Hirschbruch“.
Cross the country road, and continue straight ahead on the ridge trail through the „Arnsberger Wald“.
Your feet carry you to the „Gemeinheitskopf“, where benches offer another possibility for a break, before you turn left and descend towards „Hotel Waldhaus“.
